VANCOUVER -- July 7/95 -- STAT -- Efforts to reduce food costs, fueled by the current season's weather problems, prompted the Indian government to halve import duties on pulses from 10% to 5% effective June 26 last. This is an important change given the fact India consumes between 22% and 25% of the world pulse crop -- and an even higher percentage of the food grade production.
