WASHINGTON -- Jan 16/95 -- USDA -- Production of dry edible beans is estimated at 31.0 million cwt in 1995, a gain of 7% from 1994 and 42% above 1993. This is the largest bean crop since 1991.

WASHINGTON -- Jan 16/95 -- USDA -- Production of lentils is estimated at 1.97 million cwt, up 6% from 1994 but 2% short of 1993. Harvested area of 143,000 acres was off 20% from 1994 and equal to 1993. The average yield jumped to 1,376 pounds per acre, up 333 pounds from 1994 but 27 pounds below 1993.

- European Lupin and Field Bean Imports Faltered in 1994-95
PARIS, France -- Jan 17/96 -- European imports of lupins and field beans plunged 47% and 30% respectively during the 1994-95 marketing year, according to statistic compiled by the Union Nationale Interprofessionnelle des Plantes Riches en Proteines. Falling lupin imports were a direct result of the drought in 1994, which devastated Australian crops. Lupin production fell from 1.51 million MT in 1993-94 to 845,000 MT last year.
