Lentils Push Deeper Into Record Book

PANAMA - Nov 22/15 - SNS -- Prices being paid to red lentil growers in Australia and Canada's green lentil producers set new record highs during the past week.

Relatively strong demand and the belief the world could have grown more lentils in 2015 is providing the fundamental basis for price strength in lentils.

It is important to note that export trading levels for green and red lentils have not set new record highs so far this season. The reason farmers in those two countries are seeing record bids is the strength of the U.S. dollar versus their local currencies.

Even so, prices being offered to Australian red lentil growers are up to U.S. $200 per metric tons (MT) higher than those seen in Canada, compared to premiums ranging up to $76 MT the previous week.
