Lentils Retain Firm Tone

VANCOUVER - Jul 22/11 - SNS -- Lentil markets maintained their relatively firm tone through the past week, helped by ongoing movement of offgrade product from Canadian farms.

Uncertainty over the status of this year's crops also contributed to market tension, with market concerned with forecasts the rest of July will be below normal in temperature and above normal in moisture in much of the lentil growing area.

Disease is becoming more of a problem in crops in Alberta and Saskatchewan, which will could result in lower yields and average quality in some areas.
