Lentil Tone Generally Firm

PANAMA - Mar 22/24 - SNS -- Lentil narkets finished the week's trading on a generally firm note against tigening supplies in spot shipping positions.

Spreads between green and red remain unusually wide, averaging U.S.$550 per metric tons (MT) since the start of the marketing year, compared to the previous five year average premium of $153 MT.

Last year, 36% of all lentils planted in Canada were green, up from 26% in 2022 and 27% in 2021, and above the recent five year average of 31%. The increase in seeded area saw the proportion of production that was green lentils advance from 20% in 2022 and 24% in 2021 to 33% last year.
