Lentils Ignore Record India Area

PANAMA - Feb 2/24 - SNS -- Lentil markets were unaffected by confirmation India planted a record area to the crop, with the potential to nearly match the recorn harvest reported in 2018.

Those gains are more than offset by expectations India's agriculture department may reduce yield forecasts for this season's kharif season pulse crops, helping sustain optimism import demand will remain strong.

Between December and November of 2023, lentil imports reached a record 1.44 million metric tons (MT), helped by last year's decline in tur or pigeon pea output from 4.22 million metric tons (MT) in 2022 to 3.31 million last year.
