Lentils Expect Fundamental Shortages

PANAMA - Aug 27/21 - SNS -- Global lentil markets continued to advance during the past week, with processors reporting growing selling resistance and buyers increasingly worried about where values will level out.

Typically, prices ease once the harvest gets underway, but below average yield reports have combined with expectations of strong export demand relative to available stocks to drive values higher.

Canada's first production estimate will be released on August 30, with the first yield estimates for the United States on September 12. The only shock would be if both Statistics Canada and the USDA adopt a more optimistic view of yields than the trade.
