Easier Tone in Lentils

PANAMA - Nov 21/20 - SNS -- Lentil markets finished the week's trading on an easier note with the sales window to India now closed unless the country authorizes another extension in its duty reduction.

Prospects for an extension may be dimming because seeding of this year's rabi season pulse crop is well underway, with 976,000 hectares of lentils in the ground as of November 20.

Area is up from this time last year, but it needs to be recalled planting was delayed in 2019. It is too early to reach assumptions about the final area, but given the speed of progress India could see initial harvest activity in late January and more significant progress in February and March.
