Lentil Advances Despite Rising Production

PANAMA - Sep 11/20 - SNS -- Lentil exporters in Canada and the United States are looking at bigger crops than last year than initially thought, while their counterparts in Australia expect a smaller harvest than last.

Australia's latest production estimates forecast this year's harvest at 497,000 metric tons (MT), down from 543,000 last year, while the USDA expects this year's harvest to reach 295,000 MT, compared to 244,000 last year.

Statistics Canada will release its second production estimate on September 14. But, farmers are reporting higher average yields to Saskatchewan Agriculture's crop reporters than estimated by Statistics Canada in August.
