Strong Bulk Lentil Movement

PANAMA - Oct 22/18 - SNS -- Canadian bulk lentils shipments into export markets remain strong, with export loadings through the middle of October up 40% over the same period last year at 121,500 metric tons (MT).

This is reflected in demand for lentils from farmers by primary elevators. Deliveries into that system are up 15% over last year at 340,100 MT. The combination saw total lentil export clearances in August set a record for that month at almost 159,000 MT.

Some of the improved demand seems to reflect efforts by some millers in India to both substitute lentils for peas, which are subject to quantitative import restrictions, and fill gaps created by a later start to seeding this year's kharif crops.
