FAQ No 2 Canada Lentil Crop

VANCOUVER - Sep 21/15 - SNS -- Lentil markets maintained a relatively firm tone through the past week, helped by steady movement of new crop product into export channels and a relatively strong start to bulk conventional shipments from Canada.

Markets were surprised by Saskatchewan Agriculture's preliminary breakdown of grades, which indicate this year's Canadian harvest is FAQ (fair average quality) No 2 Canada.

Based on reports from regional crop reporters, Saskatchewan Agriculture thinks 12% of the lentil harvest will be No 1 Canada, while 59% is No 2 Canada, 27% No 3 and extra 3, and 2% sample grade. Last year's initial grade breakdown was 5% No 1 Canada, 32% No 2 Canada, 53% No 3 and extra 3, and 10% sample grade.
