WASHINGTON - Jun 11/14 - SNS -- Citrus fruit production in the United States continues to slip below year earlier levels because of a disappointing orange crop, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates for 2014.
The United States all orange forecast for the 2013-2014 season is 6.94 million tons, down 4% from the previous forecast and down 16% from the 2012-2013 final utilization.
The 2013-2014 United States grapefruit crop is forecast at 1.07 million tons, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 11% from last season's final utilization. The Row Count Survey in Florida indicated that 99% of all grapefruit rows were harvested. California and Texas grapefruit production forecasts were carried forward from May.
