Smaller U.S. Citrus Harvest

WASHINGTON - Apr 9/14 - SNS -- Citrus fruit production in the United Satets is experienceing a net decline this year as gains in grapefruit are more than offset by falling output of orange.

The United States expects to grow 7.20 million tons of oranges this season, down 2% from the previous forecast and down 13% from the 2012-2013 revised final utilization, according to the USDA.

The 2013-2014 United States grapefruit crop is forecast at 1.08 million tons, up 3% from the previous forecast but down 10% from last season's revised final utilization. The Row Count Survey in Florida indicated that 82% of white grapefruit and 92% of colored grapefruit rows were harvested.

The United States tangerine and mandarin crop is forecast at 676,000 tons, down 2% from the March forecast and down 1% from last season's final utilization. The Row Count Survey in Florida showed 72% of the Honey tangerine rows had been harvested.
