Lentils Unaffected By Canada's Stocks Report

PANAMA - May 6/22 - SNS -- Lentil markets were not overly surprised by Statistics Canada's March 31 stocks in all positions estimates for the crop.

It pegged total inventories at 949,000 metric tons (MT), down from 1.439 million last year and well below the recent five year average of 1.512 million MT of all classes of lentils. Stocks are not broken down by class.

Commercial inventories were unchanged at 179,000 MT, while stocks on farms sank from 1.26 million MT last year to 770,000. During the previous five year the average on farm supply reported by Statistics Canada was 1.337 million MT as of March 31.
