Renewed Debate Over Lentil Yields

PANAMA - Sep 2/16 - SNS -- Canada's harvest made good progress during the past week because of improved weather conditions across the growing area.

With farmers now delivering product into processing plants and the bulk handling system, the debate over how many lentils were harvested and their quality is gaining intensity.

There is less pessimism surrounding those issues than before the harvest began, suggesting both are better than feared. Heading into the harvest it was felt the green lentil crop would be an FAQ (fair average quality) Extra 3 Canada, while the reds were probably an FAQ No 2 Canada. Disease and weathering were the major issues affecting grades.
