Record Third Quarter Lentil Movement

VANCOUVER - Nov 8/14 - SNS -- International lentil markets maintained their relatively firm tone trough the past week, helped by steady export movement from Canada and the United States.

Export clearances from both countries have were stronger than normal in the July through September period. U.S. lentil exports were a record 103,708 metric tons (MT) during the quarter, more than doubling the previous high set in 2010.

Unless this year's crop was bigger than initially thought or more lentils were carried over from last year, available supplies of U.S. origin product could tighten rapidly, forcing processors to buy from Canadian farmers.
