Mixed Week in Birdseeds
VANCOUVER - Sep 13/14 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets registered a mixed performance during the past week, reflecting the competing influences of bearish grain and oilseed markets and worries about harvest delays in Canada's canaryseed crop.
That crop is harvested last by many farmers, but grower attitudes are strongly influenced by problems affecting pulses and other crops in Canada.
Canada's canaryseed harvest was rated as just 1% complete by Saskatchewan Agriculture, the same as last year. Average harvest progress by this time of year is similarly small, sitting at 3% for the most recent five-year period and almost 5% during the past three years.
