Modest Strength In Birdseeds
PANAMA - Apr 26/24 - SNS - North American birdseed ingredient markets started to show some firmness during the past week, despite seasonally light trading activity.
Sunflower seed markets strengthened over worries prospective reductions in seeded area in the United States will be too steep relative to the prospective domestic and export needs of the market in 2024-25.
White proso millet, by contrast, was relatively steady on the week. Markets will get their first glimpse of total plantings in the June 28 seeded area estimates from the USDA. That report comes a day after Statistics Canada releases its estimates of canary and sunflower seed plantings.
