Canadian Crop Reports Firm Lentils
VANCOUVER - Aug 22/14 - SNS -- International lentil markets finished the week's trading on a firmer note over what were viewed as relatively bullish production estimates from Statistics Canada.
While total lentil production is up over last year, average yields are down 22% at 1,359 pounds per seeded acre or 1,482 per harvested acre.
Significantly, more recent surveys by Saskatchewan Agriculture suggest that the actual yield could be lower.
