Peanut Output Rising 22%

WASHINGTON - Aug 12/14 SNS -- Peanuts production is forecast at 5.07 billion pounds, up 22% from last year, according to the USDA's latest crop production forecast.

Area for harvest is expected to total 1.28 million acres, unchanged from June but 23% higher than 2013. Based on conditions as of August 1, the average yield for the United States is forecast at 3,964 pounds per acre, down 42 pounds from last year. Record high yields are expected in Texas and Virginia.

As of August 3, 72% of the United States acreage was rated in good to excellent condition, compared with 63% at the same time last year. Ninety-one% of the acreage was pegging at this time, 4 percentage points ahead of last year and 5 percentage points ahead of the five-year average.
