VANCOUVER - Jun 13/14 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredients posted a mixed performance as markets adjusted to news about seeding progress.
After a slow start, planting is advancing at a good pace in Saskatchewan and North Dakota. Seeding of Canadian canaryseed is now well past the midway, with around 42% of the crop thought to have been sown the last three weeks of May.
This is a slower than normal place and reflects problems with soil moisture conditions in regions which tend to grow a higher proportion of the crop.
