Limited Trading Affects Lentils

VANCOUVER - Mar 21/14 - SNS -- International lentil markets finished the week's trading on a slightly easier note amid hopes of a modest improvement in the flow of Canadian product into export channels.

Though rail movement has shown only modest improvements, many industry participants believe the backlog will not cleared until September. Pulse processors in the United States face similar problems, with some doubting they will experience any real improvement until June of 2015.

This partly reflects the expectation BNSF will be operating at around 60% of capacity because of system wide maintenance work aimed at increased capacity. Canada's problems were magnified by the truckers strike in the Port of Vancouver. They will be legislated back to work in the coming week.
