Weaker Undertone in Lentils

VANCOUVER - May 31/13 - SNS -- International lentil markets finished the week's trading with a weaker undertone as offers from growers and processors moved ahead of the short term needs of the market.

Red lentils had been supported by heavy buying from the Indian subcontinent. But demand has eased as the region deals with the arrival of large quantities of bulk conventional and containerized shipments.

Once the inventory is cleared, exporters expect to see demand re-emerge, particularly in India, which is dealing with a steep decline in domestic production.
