Seeding Activity Slows Lentils

VANCOUVER - May 24/13 - SNS -- Lentil markets were little changed in relatively light trading activity resulting from the fact northern hemisphere farmers are busy with seeding and other spring fieldwork.

Seeding is making good progress in most areas, with the week starting with almost half the Canadian crop in the ground.

Some market participants think seeding may have finished the week at over three-quarters complete in Canada.

Weather forecasts are relatively good, though there is 30% to 60% risk of showers in much of Saskatchewan through the middle of the coming week.

Seeding was nearing completion in Montana and the U.S. Pacific Northwest, but lagging well behind normal in North Dakota. Markets would not be surprised to see planting quickly wrap up in areas outside North Dakota.
