Lentils in Holiday Mode

VANCOUVER - Dec 21/12 - SNS -- North American lentil markets finished the week little changed in quiet, holiday season trading.

Most processors and exporters will be closed or working with minimum staff until the first week of January, with the result there was little interest in doing business for anything other than deferred shipment.

The new year also kicks off with the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers annual conference in Saskatoon on January 7. This has become one of the most important events on the conference calendar for the pulse industry because it gives the first indications of grower attitudes toward growing pulses.

Traders are looking both at how many farmer attend the event and which pulse is attracting the most obvious grower interest. Early bets are that green lentils will attract more negative than positive feedback.
