Lentils Become Cheapest Pulse
VANCOUVER - Jul 27/12 - SNS -- International lentil markets finished the week's trading with a generally softer undertone, with origin sellers becoming more aggressive in their efforts to obtain business.
Some market participants believe the need to keep plants busy to cover fixed operating costs has resulted in impatience with the slow pace at which demand is developing. Though business is ongoing to India, South America and other destinations, it may not be large enough to fed the appetite of a more concentrated industry.
This has resulted in a situation where several importers are saying that lentils have become the cheapest pulse. To the extent that stimulates fresh demand in more price sensitive markets, lentils may not spend a long time in the economy aisle.
