U.S. Intends 21% Lentil Area IncreaseWASHINGTON - Mar 30/12 - SNS -- Lentil growers in the United States intend to boost land in the crop by 21%, according to this year's seeding intentions report from the USDA. This would lift total area from 428,000 to 518,000 acres this year. The only state showing a decrease is Montana, which has become the most important lentil growing area. Acreage could fall 15% to 220,000 acres. Farmers in Idaho, North Dakota, and Washington anticipate increased acreage from last year.
