Lentil Firm Before StatsCan Report
VANCUVER - Sep 30/11 - SNS -- North American lentil markets finished the week's trading on a firm note, with processors and exporters adopting a more defensive posture in front of next week's crop estimates from Statistics Canada.
Many market participants are looking for this year's seeded area and forecast yield to be lowered from the August crop estimates.
This reflects the fact farmers were unable to finish seeding this year's crops. Moreover, ongoing reports from provincial agriculture departments indicate farmers were unable to achieve the record yields expected at the start of August.
