AgCanada Forecasts 65,000 MT Chickpea Crop

VANCOUVER - Aug 5/11 - SNS -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian chickpeas Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg reports seeded area will total 106,300 acres this year, compared to 205,000 acres last year.

Agriculture Canada believes harvested area will reach 98,800 acres for a potential 65,000 metric tons (MT) crop, roughly half last year's 128,000 harvest.

Agriculture Canada forecasts exports will reach 50,000 MT in 2011-12. Domestic use is forecast at 33,000 MT in the coming marketing year.
