Chickpea Tones Hold Firm

VANCOUVER - Jul 15/11 - SNS -- International chickpea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week as supplies available from exporters remain behind the needs of consumer buyers.

The situation in kabuli chickpeas is not expected to be resolved until the first quarter of 2012, when new crop product from Argentina and India becomes available to markets.

Attitudes toward seeding chickpeas could be affected by budget negotiations in the United States. There are mixed messages about the future of ethanol subsidies. The subsidies were created by the Republicans, many of whom now oppose them because the Democrats support them.
