Limited Trading in Birdseeds
VANCOUVER - Apr 30/11 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets were mostly unchanged in limited trading activity during the past week. Markets were unaffected by news Canadian farmers intend to maintain planted area at 320,000 acres this year.
However, concern was expressed that prospective cuts to sunflower area in Canada as well as the United States could make it harder for domestic and export traders to supply customers in the coming marketing year.
Canadian farmers intend to slash seedings in Manitoba from 135,000 to 65,000 acres this year; while their counterparts in the United States intend to cut sunflower area from 1.24 to 1.09 million acres, with confectionary sunflower seedings forecast to drop 66,000 acres to 233,000.
