Acreage Worries Firm Birdseeds

VANCOUVER - Apr 2/11 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading on a mainly firm note against worries land in crops used by the industry will fall more than expected this spring.

Despite strong markets for both oil-type and confectionary sunflower, farmers in the United States intend to reduce seeded area 8% to 1.81 million acres.

If yields are at their recent five-year average, confectionary sunflower seed output could drop 66,000 metric tons (MT) to just over 233,000.
