Grower Selling Lags Lentil Market Needs

VANCOUVER - Jan 14/11 - SNS -- International lentil markets maintained a firm undertone through the middle of the month as supplies being released by growers remain slightly behind the needs of the market.

Markets are also being influenced by the expectation world production will be down this year because returns to growers are not as good as those available from competing crops.

In Canada, farmers trying to grow lentils on the fringe of the preferred areas are expected to drop the crop in favor if canola.
