Little Change in Turkish Lentil Area Seen

WASHINGTON - Dec 30/10 - SNS -- Competition for land use in Turkey is heating up for the coming production cycles because of bullish market conditions for cotton, corn and wheat.

While no preliminary forecasts are available for pulses grown in Turkey, it will be hard to increase land in major crops without cutting back on pulses in some parts of the country.

Having said that, the U.S. agricultural attache for Turkey is confident that even if there is an overall decrease in pulse area, lentil seedings will be largely unchanged from last year.
