VANCOUVER - Oct 23/10 - SNS -- Markets for high grade lentils finished the week on a strong note, while discounts for lower grade merchandise remain at record high levels in western Canada.
This is a clear reflection of the limited quantity of No 1 and No 2 grade lentils harvested this year and is expected to remain a feature of markets much of the coming marketing year.
So far this season average spread between No 1 and No 2 large green lentil bids is lower than normal, while the spread between No 1 and extra 3 or No 3 grade lentils is at record high.
