PANAMA - Mar 22/24 - SNS -- Kabuli chickpea markets finished the week's trading on an uneasy note against expectations there will be an overall increase in plantings in Canada and the United States.

Based on a survey of 9,600 farmers between December 14 and January 22, Statistics Canada said growers plan to seed 400,000 acres of chickpeas this year, up from 315,500 last year and well aove the previous five year average of 292,200 acres.

Intended plantings in the United States will be known when the USDA releases its estimates on March 28, but there is a general expectation area will likely increase.
