Increased Mustard Plantings

PANAMA - Apr 28/18 - SNS -- Canadian growers intend to increase land in all classes of mustard seed this year, keeping overall inventories aligned with the needs of the market.

Statistics Canada does not break down seeded area by class, but a significant part of the potential increase from 378,000 to 437,900 acres should be accounted for by brown.

A return to average yields would see output in Canada jump from 121,600 to 173,000 metric tons (MT). This summer's carry over is expected to come in at 46,000 MT, suggesting the available supply of mustard will climb from 213,600 to 219,000 MT.
