General Firmness in Chickpeas

PANAMA - Aug 14/16 - SNS -- International chickpea markets remained generally firm through the past week, with kabuli type continuing to be influenced by the short crop in Mexico and high asking prices.

Even so, there were reports of Argentine exporters discounting North American suppliers because they are anxious to add to sales positions.

The small caliber kabuli chickpea markets is also being influenced by expectations of a significant increase in production of desi-type and kabuli chickpeas on the Indian during the coming rabi or winter cropping season.
