Few Changes in Birdseeds

PANAMA - Apr 1/16 - SNS -- Sunflower seeding in tentions in the United DStates caught the industry by surprise, with farmers saying they intend to reduce rather than expand land in the crop.

Market participants were looking for farmers to plant more oil-type and less confection sunflower seed. Instead, they will reduce both for a combined total of 1.69 million acres, the fourth lowest since 1977.

Land is oil type varieties will drop 7% to 1.44 million acres, while confection sunflower sinks 19% to 249,400 acres.
