Chickpea Stocks Remain Ample
VANCOUVER - Dec 12/14 - SNS -- International kabuli-type chickpea markets finished the week's trading on an easier note as supplies of product remain ahead of consumer needs.
Markets were pleased the latest USDA production estimates. Chickpea output in the United States was pegged at 128,413 metric tons (MT) from 72,300 acres, down from 161,435 MT last year.
Crop estimates for beans and chickpeas followed the same pattern as in Canada, with the final number ending up lower than initially expected. This reflected the fact that initial optimism about yields and harvested area was misplaced.
