SaskAg Paints Bearish Picture

REGINA - Aug 29/14 - SNS -- Saskatchewan Agriculture paints a more bearish yield picture for Canadian specialty crops than Statistics Canada, suggesting that production of all pulses and specialty crops will be higher than initially forecast.

Regional yield estimates form crop reporters in the province suggest production of all special crops and pulses will come in around 6.809 million metric tons (MT), up 7% from Statistics Canada's 6.38 million MT estimate.

Only 2% of all crops had been harvested in Saskatchewan when the provincial estimates were made, with the result they need to be treated as preliminary. Further, differences in the way production estimates are derived can result in significant differences between the provincial estimates and the final production tally, which will be released in December.
