Russia Pulse Output Rises

VANCOUVER - Aug 5/14 - SNS -- Russia's pulse crop will likely be bigger than year even though seeded area is down because of a general improvement in growing conditions.

Total land in pulses is estimated at 1.71 million hectares, down from 1.983 million last year. Production, by contrast, stands a good chance of advancing from 2.126 to 2.267 million metric tons (MT).

The most widely grown pulse is field peas. Recent expansion in area has been fueled by exports. But, Russia still consumes significantly more peas domestically than it exports.
