Peas Transfixed by India's Monsoon

VANCOUVER - Aug 2/14 - SNS -- International field pea markets continue to pay close attention to seeding progress in India, where land in kharif season crops remains well behind normal.

Farmers in the country, however, took full advantage of monsoon rainfall events in key areas to seed a record 2.272 million hectares of pulses during the last week of July.

This has left markets unsure about whether seeded area will be down as much as appeared to be the case just one week ago. On the other hand, monsoon rainfall accumulations are significantly behind normal in a large part of the area which grows most of India's rabi season crop.
