Chickpeas Maintain Firm Tone

VANCOUVER - Dec 3/11 - SNS -- International chickpea markets remain relatively firm during the past week despite the availability of new crop kabuli type product from Argentina and Australia.

Markets seemed more concerned about production prospects for Mexico. The country is suffering through one of the worst droughts of the past 70 years over nearly 70% of the country.

This has resulted in reductions in the estimated size of the country's corn and dry edible bean crops and raised doubts about how keen farmers will be to plant chickpeas, given the high cost of planting seed and increased risk to yield resulting from drought conditions.
