World Chickpea Markets Easing

VANCOUVER - Nov 11/11 - SNS -- Chickpea markets finished the week with a generally weaker undertone, with more exporters looking for rather than waiting for business.

Initial harvest activity was reported in Argentina, though the bulk of the crop will not be harvested until December. Processors appear happy with the quality of early harvested product, but they acknowledge there is still lots of chance for weather to cause problems.

Seeding of India's winter or rabi season pulse crops is making excellent progress, with chickpea acreage rising sharply in Rajasthan. Processors in that country hope to grow 600,000 metric tons (MT) of kabuli chickpeas this season; while the Indian government hopes overall pulse production this winter offsets the decline in summer or kharif season production.
