StatsCan Forgets About Chickpeas

VANCOUVER - Oct 4/11 - SNS -- The biggest disappointment for markets is that the latest crop production report from Statistics Canada did not try to estimate the size of this year's chickpea crop.

The government agency stopped trying to estimate Alberta's output last year, and with this report, did not try to estimate production in Saskatchewan.

More surprisingly, the "official" supply and demand estimate published by Statistics Canada shows zero chickpea production in Canada this year. That is certainly not true, with farmers in Alberta and Saskatchewan being actively pursued for any kabuli-type chickpeas they grew this year.
