Chickpeas Finish on Strong Note

VANCOUVER - Jan 14/11 - SNS -- International chickpea markets finished the week's trading on a strong note with reasonably priced product more readily finding a home.

Markets are trying to bridge the gap until new crop kabuli type chickpeas are available from India and Mexico. They are also seeking to fill the hole left by this season's failure of the Australian desi chickpea crop.

Bullish sentiment is helped by the severe flooding in Queensland and Brisbane, which had hosted last year's CICILS convention. Recognizing parts of the city which are being flooded makes it easier for markets to believe in the level of devastation caused by abnormal rainfall levels across the chickpea growing region.
