Australian Problems Support Chickpeas

VANCOUVER - Jan 7/11 - SNS -- Chickpea markets have started the new year on a firm note, helped by deep worries about the status of crops in Australia.

While the country grows mainly desi type chickpeas, its kabuli production offers some markets an important bridge until new crop product is available from India and Mexico.

Markets believe Australia's crop is in deep trouble.
