PANAMA - Dec 7/15 - SNS -- Statistics Canada slashed its chickpea production estimate 17% from the October crop forecast, pegging it at 83,500 metric tons (MT), down 32% from last year.
Output was down as lower average yields combined with a modest reduction in seeded area to 115,000 acres.
Statistics Canada only reports production in Saskatchewan, saying the province's growers harvested 65,800 MT of kabuli type chickpeas. The balance would be a combination of kabuli, B-90 and possibly desi.
