Pessimistic Chickpea Yield Outlook

VANCOUVER - Sep 12/15 - SNS -- Saskatchewan Agriculture painted a pessimistic picture for supplies of Canadian chickpeas for the 2015-16 marketing campaign.

With 13% of the crop harvest, the provincial agriculture department said yields in the province will likely average 1,157 pounds per acre, compared to Statistics Canada's 1,1522 pound forecast.

If accurate, the provincial yield forecast points to a 65,600 metric tons (MT) crop, well below the Statistics Canada estimate production would reach 86,300 MT. Both numbers are well below last year's 123,000 MT result.
